Barberry acquired this 10.5 acre site on the high profile mixed use Centrum 100 Business Park which is adjacent to the A38 and provides dual carriageway access to the M1, M6, M6 Toll and M42. Barberry achieved full planning permission for a 157,500 sq. ft. (14,632 sq. m) distribution warehouse in December 2006 and entered into a joint venture with GE Real Estate. The building contract was awarded in January 2007 to Ashford Construction with practical completion achieved on budget and on time, in July 2007.
The building was let shortly after pc to Unipart Logistics Limited. Unipart are servicing a contract with Waterstones Booksellers Ltd and the distribution facility will service all of their 320 book stores and their online business. The centre is likely to create up to 450 jobs when all 3 shifts are in place and is proving a major boost for the economy. Unipart are extensively fitting out the unit with completion of the tenant’s work due in July 2008.
