A leading frozen food retailer is set to expand its portfolio with a new store at a popular Swansea retail park, creating job opportunities in the area.
Iceland has signed a 15-year lease for unit three (6,000 sq ft) at the Phoenix Retail Park in Swansea. The retail park, which is owned by Worcestershire-based developers Barberry Developments, is ideally located within four miles of Swansea city centre and has excellent access to M4 junctions 44/45.
Martyn Cartwright, director at Barberry Developments, said: “This recent letting takes occupancy of the Phoenix Retail Park to more than 70%, which is very satisfying given the current climate. Iceland will join other discount retailers such as B&M, Home Bargains and Poundworld, who are already successfully operating from the site.”
Martyn added: “We are pleased that Iceland has chosen Phoenix Retail Park to support its expansion plans and that the new store will create jobs in the area. With similar retailers being based at the retail park, we are confident that the introduction of Iceland will help to increase footfall and sales for everyone.”
Tim Yates, group acquisitions manager at Iceland, said: “We are delighted to be opening another Iceland store in Swansea. Shoppers have responded well to our two established stores in the city, and we are looking to continue our success at this excellent out of town development.”
Iceland started the fit out process last month (September) and aims to officially open the store in November 2012.
Barberry, which acquired Phoenix Retail Park in 2007, has carried out an extensive refurbishment of the retail park including replacing external cladding, internal refurbishment and improved access and car park layout. It is a well-established shopping destination with nearby retailers including Tesco Extra, Go Outdoors, Comet and Carpet Right.
There is now only one 13,250 sq ft unit available to let at Phoenix Retail Park. To view the premises, visit www.phoenixretailpark.co.uk or contact agents Morgan Williams on 0207 4934455 or Fletcher Morgan on 02920 378921.
