Barberry announces speculative warehouse development plans in Birmingham

Barberry has announced plans to submit a detailed planning application to build a new speculatively developed warehouse on a brownfield site in Birmingham.

The proposed 46,000 sq ft self-contained high quality warehouse facility will be built on a 2.5-acre site on Walsall Road, to the north of Birmingham city centre.

It will have fully fitted first floor offices and secured loading yard with both level and dock level access. The site has an extensive frontage to the A34 and is a six-minute drive from junction 6 of the M6.

Subject to planning consent, the building will be constructed in 2017 and will be available to rent or purchase. It will appeal to occupiers in the urban logistics sector, e-commerce, wholesale, cash and carry, trade and the traditional industrial, storage and distribution sectors.

Jon Robinson, development director Barberry Developments, said: “We secured the site in December 2016 and the submission of a planning application is key for us in bringing forward our proposed scheme. Our scheme will provide much-needed stock to the mid-sized industrial/warehouse sector within Birmingham. “

“We have already had several occupiers contact us about the scheme and hope we can satisfy their requirements.

“These are exciting times for Barberry as we embark on the speculative development of a prime industrial site that will bring much-needed investment and dozens of jobs to the area.

“The limited supply of grade A stock available in the market, coupled with strong occupational demand, gives Barberry the confidence to speculatively develop the scheme. The prominent site has a close proximity to local population densities, is a short distance to the motorway networks and provides a great urban logistics location and opportunity for any business looking to relocate, and buy or rent, within the West Midlands.”

He added: “We have several other projects of a similar size in the pipeline, which we will announce in 2017, as we seek to capitalise on the many opportunities presented by this dynamic sector.”

JLL and MWRE are the retained property consultants for Barberry.
