Barberry celebrates 40th year with charity donation

Property developer and investor Barberry Group has raised more than £20,000 for a local charity as it celebrates 40 years in business.

The company staged a series of fundraising events during its 40th year, culminating in a dinner for 100 guests at Orelle restaurant in Birmingham during which it announced it had raised £20,000 for the Rees Foundation.

Barberry Group managing director Henry Bellfield said: “We have been fortunate to enjoy a great deal of success during the 40 years since Barberry was first established and 2023 has been no exception. An important ethos at Barberry is to try to enjoy the business that we do and the people that we do it with. This was reflected in the event we staged at Orelle.

“We have also chosen to give something back to the community and support a local charity for this special year. With the support of our friends and colleagues in the property sector, we have been able to donate in excess of £20,000 to Rees Foundation which does wonderful work in providing life-long help and crucial support for care leavers.”

Droitwich-based Rees Foundation supports often forgotten vulnerable adults who may have experienced instability, trauma, and a lack of emotional support which can result in low self-esteem, social, emotional or behavioural difficulties. Donations help care-experienced people to grow their confidence and get coaching so they can enter the workplace and thrive.

Melody Douglas, CEO at Rees Foundation, said: “We are truly appreciative of the support from Barberry this year.  Rees Foundation is supporting hundreds of vulnerable care leavers and Barberry’s remarkable fundraising achievements will help us to fund vital resources. It will help more care leavers into employment, mentor care leavers to manage their own finances and homes and enable us to offer financial assistance in crisis situations. It’s imperative that support is available for care leavers. Care shouldn’t stop at 18 or 25 – we have to be there for them.”

During Barberry’s 40 years the business has maintained a flat management structure and remained opportunity driven and flexible. Henry added: “We are excited about the future and the potential of this business. We’ve got an extremely motivated, ambitious, and driven team. Equally as importantly, we have a strong balance sheet that enables us to acquire opportunities and execute our business plans.”
